Job Summary -Assistant Business Accountant job description

To produce the budget, short term financial forecasts, and month end closure and reporting for the ORGANISATIONs Public Service Divisions. To work to report financial variances in conjunction with the divisional finance teams.

Each business accountant team delivers finance services to a number of divisions.

Team members are aligned to specific divisions to provide a consistent point of contact for

Main responsibilities-Assistant Business Accountant job description

To work with/support Business Accountants in the delivery of the following:

Short term and medium term planning
To produce and maintain the short-term (current year) and medium term (3 year) financial plan for the divisions in the teams cluster. This includes income, overhead expenditure. It will involve collaborating with the divisional finance teams where appropriate, to obtain division specific expenditure for incorporation in forecasts and reports.

Budgeting
To produce the budgets for the divisions in the clusters, extrapolating trends and inputting financial data.
To support the review of the budget and short and medium term plans.

Reporting
To complete standard month-end financial processes, including journal entries, reconciliation and analysis.
To produce monthly divisional accounts, including revised short term plan and service licence schedules.
To identify and obtain information required to explain monthly variances in collaboration with embedded finance.
To identify and obtain information required to explain KPI variances in collaboration with the embedded finance.
To manage and maintain divisional balance sheet information including analysis of working capital balances and forecast.
To understand the requirements and produce specific reports for specialist areas in the aligned division.
To identify new reporting requirements that support divisional analysis.

Year end
To close year end accounts, agreeing final adjustments with other teams and audit.
To complete any additional requirements for year end statutory reporting purposes.

Other Responsibilities
To maintain standard rate calculations for cost modelling.
To analyse variances and deal with ad hoc queries.
To build a detailed understanding of client divisions financial support needs.
To identify and recommend opportunities for improvement in finance processes, methodologies and environments.
To contribute to improving the quality of own work and the work of others.
To facilitate the ongoing development in own performance identifying and meeting own training and development needs with the support of the Business Accounting Team Lead.
To facilitate own professional and career development by identifying and meeting own training and development needs and in identifying future career opportunities with the support of the Business Accounting Team Lead and with informal professional mentoring from the qualified Business Accountants.
To keep other team members informed of issues and decisions that impact on them.
To facilitate collaboration between team members for example through sharing information, collaborating on decision making, and taking mutual responsibility for the work of the team.
To comply with all relevant ORGANISATION safety rules, procedures and guidelines. To carry out responsibilities defined in the ORGANISATION safety policy.
To comply with the ORGANISATIONs policies on Diversity and to apply the principles of the policy when carrying out the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Assistant Business Accountant job description

Accounting and Professional Skills

Training for a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

Management accounts: able to prepare regular management accounts and related reports or ability to learn to do so.

Planning, budgeting and forecasting: able to assist management to prepare financial projections within defined parameters.

Communicating Financial Information:
Able to explain finance information in a clear and concise written and verbal format to finance and non-finance people.
