Job Summary -Assistant Service Line Accountant job description

Providing professional finance advice and support in all aspects of financial management and business planning, and provide finance and budgetary support to the Operational Managers within Surgical Service Line.

To provide and maintain a highly efficient and effective Finance Department, ensuring all duties are carried out accurately and to a high
standard and in accordance with the Organisation Policies and Procedures

Budget Setting
_ Prepare and finalise budgets annually in consultation with budget holders and divisional managers
_ Prepare monthly income and expenditure forecasts by department.

Costing
_ Provide costings to budget holders as requested on a timely basis.
_ Prepare first stage costings for post approval requests for budget holders.

Information analysis and use of Information Technology
_ Interrogate a variety of data sources and systems to extract and analyse relevant data.
_.

 Daily use of Microsoft Office applications or similar, especially Excel , Word, and Outlook, and extensive daily use of the General Ledger and Purchase Ledger systems using ORACLE platform.
_ Use of Oracle ADI and Disco reporting tools to generate analyses of expenditure

General
_ To provide continuous financial management support to Surgical Service Line Managers and Clinicians. To provide financial advice and financial procedure information
_ Organisation and management of own time and workload to ensure that both standard regular tasks and urgent ad hoc requests are prioritised and completed accurately and in a timely manner
_ Provide cover for other members of the department for annual leave, sickness or other absence.
_ Ensure that procedures for own area of work are maintained and reviewed regularly. Keep procedure notes in an orderly manner, so that they are readily accessible.
_ Assist in the training and development of junior members of finance staff and also in the training of non-financial staff in budgetary management.
_ The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a concise, confident and accurate manner giving due regard to confidentiality. The post involves extensive communication with a wide range of customers including ward and divisional managers.

Assistant Service Line Accountant job description

As a qualified Association of Accounting Technician (AAT), you will have experience of working in a finance team and a good working knowledge of budgetary control and use of financial systems. You will also have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel. You will also need to demonstrate good analytical ability and provide evidence of being able to work to tight deadlines. Excellent I.T. and communication skills are essential. Further training for Accountancy qualifications and CPD will be supported for suitable candidates in accordance with the trust’s training policy.
