To perform the basic and more specialised audiological tests provided within Audiology on adults and older children :
• Routine puretone audiometry with bone conduction and masking
• Full middle ear function tests including stapedial reflexes
• Speech audiometry
• Provision of hearing aids both analogue and digital to MHAS protocols
• Undertake routine maintenance and calibration of all equipment used in the department and to report any adverse findings of the same to the section heads
• To follow agreed established working procedures within Audiology
• To work as part of the team in more specialised areas of the service
• To participate in the introduction of new tests and techniques
• To assist in the supervision and training of student technicians used within the department and also to assist in the training of trainee audiologists to national assessment standards
• Maintain a safe working environment at all times
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Participate in regular departmental meetings to facilitate the exchange or ideas and information
• Ensure good communication skills via staff meetings, team brief and CMT meetings
providing comprehensive technical support to medical, technical and scientific staff including the supervision and training of junior grade audiologists and assistants.
• To participate in departmental audit to monitor accuracy of reports and content, to be aware of clinical governance and in maintaining a quality service to improve the audiology service
• To assist in the implementation of health and safety policies and other associated legislation
• To attend mandatory training in line with trusts requirements.
• Other duties which may be allocated from time to time by the Head of Service Consultant ENT Staff and Senior Audiologists
• Keeping of patient records and statistics
• Appropriate liaison with clinical/nursing staff and other department staff
• Produce accurate reports/ results.
• Actively participate in CPD.
BSc in Audiology or equivalent
Membership of BAA
RCCP membership
Knowledge
Professional knowledge acquired through clinical practical experience.
Awareness of current trends in audiology
Ability to propose changes to working practices for own area to improve patient experience.
Skills and Abilities
Skills for assessing and interpreting test results.
Applying information to use and application of appropriate hearing aids for adult users.
Highly developed skills where accuracy is important such as insertion of probe tubes into adult ears.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Experience
Understanding of deaf awareness.
