Main responsibilities-Clinical Systems Author Job Description

Contribute to the Clinical System Development, introduce original clinical ideas to develop, new material involving both clinical and non-clinical content, particularly enabling non-clinicians to safely deal with clinical issues on the telephone.

Work with the Clinical Director to anticipate, recognise and respond to development opportunities to ensure the content is always ready to support best patient care.

Be involved in the active and detailed maintenance of existing Pathways and development of new symptom specific pathways; contribute to ensuring that the working practices and processes of the NHS Pathways Team continue to fulfil all aspects of good clinical and corporate governance.

Stay abreast of relevant evidence changes and provide knowledge and information into the authoring team for clinical discussion and agreement on relevant action required.

Work within the team to ensure that clinical coding of the clinical content meets standards so that easy exchange of clinical data is achieved.

The post holder must be a registered practising clinician and is expected to continue to practice for at least one session per week in their clinical field, but no more than half time in clinical practice.
The post holder will be expected to contribute an informed clinical perspective to the continuous quality improvement processes to maximizing the potential benefits of implementing the NHS Pathways system Underpinning all of this will be the need to ascertain and maintain a concise, comprehensive set of conditions considered (differential diagnoses) for each symptom topic to ensure conditions are suitably prioritised and addressed in line with UK evidence and level of risk management suitable for the NHS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Clinical Systems Author Job Description

Essential

Medical Degree.

Full registration with the General Medical Council.

Significant experience of acute medicine preferably as a General Practitioner.

Experience and understanding of the principles of clinical decision support software (CDSS) and working with CDSS suppliers

Requisite IT skills to enable use of common software packages and support effective learning on specific pathway building software

Experience of working in Out of Hours care organisations

Experience of working with national bodies including the DH and professional representative groups.

Leadership and implementation of clinical governance processes
Desirable

Experience of national policy development. Experience of cross-organisational working

Development and implementation of high profile change programmes.

Post-graduate qualifications.

Current clinical practice as a General Practitioner or equivalent.
