Database Administrator Job Description-2

The post holder will provide support and maintenance of database systems used by Company Information Systems.

Routine database system maintenance as defined in the company Database Management Guide and as directed by the Principal Database Administrator.

Assisting in the implementation of database systems.

Investigating and resolving any problems arising with company database systems

Providing applications support to the company Information Systems

Maintain installation standards of systems development and documentation.

Ensuring the availability and integrity of company database systems.

This role profile indicates the key activities of the post and does not restrict the post holder from performing other duties. Additional duties may be agreed on an individual basis and recorded in the Performance Development Review (PDR).

Provide a plan to allow for the continuation and recovery of a primary business function following the loss of service as a result of a major incident.

Diagnose faults with technical systems or equipment and take appropriate action. Ensure that all action taken complies with organisational policy and legislation.

Ensure the integrity of computer systems through the implementation of approved contingency measures and the monitoring of use.

Conduct a thorough test of technical systems or equipment using appropriate procedures to assess performance.

Experience with Oracle Databases is preferable.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server systems, and will have undertaken recognised training for these products.

Excellent IT skills are essential.
