Database Developer Job Description-Business Intelligence

The company is investing in Business Intelligence to drive large-scale and profound cultural change across the organisation. Business Intelligence uses large information sets from several key systems to provide management information to the management community. Key benefits include greater accountability, fact based decision making and increased productivity. The Database Developer is responsible for maintaining the Business Intelligence application and developing the application as necessary. As such the Database Developer will play a key role in helping the Trust in realising its strategic aims.

The Business Intelligence system is mostly built on Microsoft Business Intelligence technologies, including SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, SQL Server 2008, SharePoint 2010. The company wants to grow the Business Intelligence Solution to include information from many more of its key systems. You will be responsible for developing the ETL Packages, SQL2008 Dimensional Model Databases, SSAS Cubes and SSRS Reports on these systems. The first task that you will have will be to evolve the existing KPI database, which provides comprehensive management dashboards to the user community, to incorporate measures and KPIs from the RiO system.

A sound in depth knowledge of database design principles, Microsoft BI stack technologies is essential.

You will ensure that all reporting is fully compliant with data protection legislation, policy and more generally that our reporting conforms to information governance best practice.

o Responsible for ensuring that the business intelligence system delivers reliable and consistent information services.

o Build confidence of key stakeholders in the quality of the Business Intelligence System by providing a consistent and reliable Business Intelligence service. This will be achieved by leading development and test cycles that ensure quality is ‘built in’.

o You will ensure that all reporting is fully compliant with data protection legislation, Trust policy and more generally that our reporting conforms to information governance best practice.

o Design systems integration documentation (ETL) documentation as required to support system to system integration.

o Design Dimensional Model Databases as required and built them accordingly.

o Evolve the KPI Metrics database as required to include kpis and measures from systems brought in scope of BI.

o Maintain technical reference documentation to support contingency, handover, maintenance and training.

o Develop the BI data staging area, BI data warehouses, cubes, ETL processes in line with business priorities.

o Manage the development process from development, to test to live.

o Supervise development work carried out by the information management team to ensure that the team follows best practice development principles that are aligned to the needs and architecture of the Business Intelligence system.

o Work with business representatives to diagnose and resolve data quality and reporting errors that might be identified in the Business Intelligence reports.

o Attend weekly business definition group meetings and act as the authority on Business Intelligence

o Train the wider Information Management team information analysts on the more advanced elements of Datawarehouse administration over time to support systems resilience.

Database Developer

Experience

• More than 5 years’ experience maintaining business intelligence systems.

• More than 5 years’ developing Datawarehouses, cubes and reports with Microsoft BI technologies (SSIS, SSAS, SQL2008, SSRS)

• More than 5 years designing and developing dimensional model databases.

• Experience of designing and working with metrics databases.

• Proven experience interacting directly with end users

• Microsoft Report Builder v2 (2008)

• Able to able to quickly understand complex concepts and work with them accordingly- such as working with stakeholder groups to understand these concepts and expand upon requirements.

• Must be results orientated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
