Dietitian

Job Summary-Dietitian

Main responsibilities-Dietitian job description

Clinical

 To provide a Dietetic service to a specified caseload which may be in the community or acute setting with support from relevant specialist dietetic staff?
 To undertake comprehensive nutritional assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex needs, in order to develop individual nutritional care plans, seeking support from senior specialist dietetic staff as appropriate.
 To negotiate and agree dietary or nutritional goals with individual patients and/or the carers using motivational and negotiating skills. This may include identifying individual barriers to change and helping
clients to manage them.
 To liaise with and advise catering departments of any special requirements for individual patients to optimise nutritional outcomes.
 To communicate effectively and efficiently with colleagues within and outside the organisation to facilitate effective patient care and multidisciplinary working.
 To be responsible for planning and organising own caseload and other work commitments to meet service and patient priorities, seeking guidance where appropriate from Senior Dietitians and the Dietetic
Manager.
 To share in the development of nutritional resources in accordance with departmental standards.

Training

 To participate in the planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation of education sessions to specific patient and carer groups e.g. diabetes education groups.
 To participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of education sessions for Health professionals, Catering, Staff. Seek guidance from Specialist Dietitians to ensure content and method of delivery is best
suited to target audience.
 To share in the supervision, teaching, co-ordination and assessment of student
Dietitians, once post holder has completed appropriate training and with supervision from the Senior Dietitian.

Dietitian

To identify personal training needs and undertake relevant CPD opportunities from a variety of sources in order to keep post holder knowledge up-to-date.
 Maintain a personal record of these CPD undertakings.

3. Administration and Clinical Governance
 To keep dietetic records and statistics in accordance with departmental policy.
 Practice in accordance with department and Trust policies.
 To work as a member of the Dietetic team supporting each other and covering during staff absence within clinical competence as
requested.
 To participate in dietetic meetings, departmental clinical effectiveness sessions and clinical governance service initiatives.
 To participate in the departmental non managerial Clinical Supervision programme.
 To undertake an annual personal development review in line with the NHS Knowledge and Skills framework with senior dietician or dietetic manager
 To undertake regular one to one reviews with the Senior Dietitian.
 To contribute to the development and monitoring of professional standards of service and clinical audit programme.
 To follow the standards of conduct, performance and ethics of the Health Professions Council.
The post-holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Trust’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience-Dietitian

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

 Degree/equivalent diploma
 HPC registered dietitian
 Willingness to undertake Professional Development
 Willingness to undertake
Clinical Supervisory cours

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
 Minimum of satisfactory
completion of clinical
placements as student dietitian
during training.

PERSONAL QUALITIES
Ability to work well with others.
 Demonstrate an awareness of the benefits and challenges of working as part of a Multidisciplinary Team.
 An ability to work independently but recognise limits of competence and know when to seek support from senior staff.
 Ability to respond to
unpredictable work patterns
