Main responsibilities-Director of Strategic Development Job Description

1. With the Board and building management teams develop a Organisation Strategy and associated service strategies and plans that reflect strategic goals, QIPP programme, the wider ORGANISATION environment, commissioner intentions and promotes our mission and values
2. To provide credible leadership that promotes drive, change and continuous improvement and encourages the development of services that are at the forefront of modern thinking and patient experience is of the highest quality.
3. To ensure the strategy is underpinned by an annual and financially sound business plan and relevant supporting strategies e.g. investment estates, workforce and marketing.
4. To lead on service review and reconfiguration. Engage and influence all stakeholders (internal and external) in the development, acceptance and delivery of the strategy.
5. Through effective two way communication seek opportunities to improve and enhance the business and reputation. Build stronger relationships with the Patient groups, SHA, PCT, and health care partners.
6. With the building management team, ensure that the Organisation develops close relationships with its main commissioners and Clinical Commissioning Group leaders and that their opinions of the Organisation and its services are understood and responded to appropriately.
7. To review and evaluate present and future opportunities, threats and risks in the external environment and current and future strengths, weaknesses and risks to the Organisation

Ensure the strategy and plan meets the expectations of Monitor for ORGANISATION Foundation Organisations.
9. To support the Director of Finance and Building Directors in contracting, contract monitoring and performance.
10. Develop an approach to business development ensuring that potential opportunities and threats to the Organisation’s services are identified and responded to appropriately. Ensure the Organisation responds to market trends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Director of Strategic Development Job Description

Qualifications/Training

Educated to a good standard of formal education or with equivalent business and management skills.

Experience

• Record of achievement as a leader in a complex organisation, especially where high levels of customer focus and stakeholder engagement are involved.
• Effectiveness in delivering strategy and performance in the acute sector
• Successful implementation of strategic and service change.
• Delivering results and improvements in an organisation under constant public scrutiny.
• Developing effective stakeholder engagement and successful relationships.

Skills/Knowledge

• Putting patient safety/quality first and uncompromising drive for higher performance.
• Ability to work at board level and in a senior management team.
• A leadership style that can adapt to the differing demands of highly qualified professionals.
• Excellent communication skills, highly developed political skills and judgement able to listen and inspire internally and with external stakeholders including the public and patient representatives.
• Ability to translate key targets and standards into clear and relevant priorities for staff and ability to interpret and respond quickly to data and trends.
