A job for a doctor specialising in old age psychiatry. Working alongside two Consultant Psychiatrists it will include work both in community settings and the in-patient unit. The post holder will receive clinical supervision from both Consultant Psychiatrists. The appointee will work with both functionally and organically ill patients in both out-patient clinics, potentially including memory clinics and a variety of community settings – including patients living in their own homes or in residential and nursing care provision. Includes responsibility for developing and delivering appropriate interventions and treatment involving other professionals from within the Service.
MAIN DUTIES OF THE POST
Key Responsibilities
• To assess and treat outpatients in clinics including specialist memory clinics. There will be four outpatient clinics per week with one new patient and four follow-up patients per clinic.
• To participate in CPA meetings for inpatients and to hold CPA meetings for outpatients.
• To visit patients in their own homes and in nursing and residential homes
• To hold ward rounds and inpatient CPA meetings in the absence of the Consultant during annual or study leave of the consultant and to provide a first point of contact for medical advice for the community teams in such consultant absences.
• To liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non NHS organisations wherever applicable.
• Occasionally prepare Mental Health Act Tribunal reports and participate in Mental Health Act Tribunal meetings. This is closely supervised by the consultant. The post holder is encouraged to seek Section 12 approval but this is not a requirement of the post.

• There is one hour consultant supervision available per week.

Clinical Governance
The post holder is expected to undertake continuing professional development, to keep themselves informed of important developments within the field of medicine and psychiatry in particular. The post holder will take part in audit, evidence based medicine Journal clubs and appraisals.
The post holder is entitled to study leave in accordance with the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service. The post holder will be entitled to 30 days study leave over 3 years and study leave will be supported by the supervising consultant and liable to approval by the Medical Director of the Trust.
On call responsibilities
There are no out of hours on call responsibilities and there are no day time rota commitments currently. A suitably qualified candidate may be able to enter into a newly constituted county wide rota for MHA work which would be separately remunerated.
Cover arrangements
The post holder will provide first point of contact in the Consultants absence with consultant supervision from one of the covering consultants.
It is envisaged the post holder will cross cover with the other staff-grade doctor. In the absence of either consultant they will provide the first point of contact within the teams for medical issues and will lead on inpatient care in Dr Bown’s absence.
Clinical Audit
The Trust expects that audit will be part of the clinical process. A Trust-wide audit policy supported by local audit committees makes provision for regular audit reviews. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in and support this process.

Experience
4 years whole time experience in Hospital service as Junior Doctor or higher.
At least 18 months experience in psychiatry

Personal Attributes
Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate.
Ability to establish good working relationships with staff and be able to communicate well with patients. Flexibility.
