A job for a hospital doctor specialising in orthodontics.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive hospital orthodontic service, achieving compliance with 18 weeks and other targets set by the Trust and nationally.
The department provides a specialist orthodontic service for patients referred from both primary care (GDS, PDS and specialist practitioners) and consultant colleagues. A full range of services is provided for patients of all ages. The department has a significant caseload of patients with multidisciplinary problems, and joint consultant clinics are regularly held within the department
A full range of orthodontic techniques is undertaken. Most cases are treated with 2-arch fixed appliances, mainly Straight-wire and Tip-edge systems being used. A large number of cases are treated with functional appliances. Multidisciplinary planning extends to both orthognathic, cleft and restorative treatments and joint clinics are held with the appropriate clinicians on a regular basis. Restorative clinics are currently held.
The radiology department is situated in the Outpatient department and has full radiological facilities including OPT, Lateral Ceph machines and Intraoral views. The radiography department has recently converted to digital images and are available through networked computers in surgeries and offices.
Clinical photography is undertaken by Medical Illustration department. OPAL image is available for analysis of Lateral Cephalograms.
MAIN DUTIES OF THE POST
• Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of orthodontic patients
• To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the orthodontic Services
• Some input into the teaching and training of junior staff.
• To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
• To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
Candidates will be expected to have obtained a Membership in Orthodontics from one of the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain or Ireland and have been awarded an MSc. The successful candidate must be registered on the Specialist List for Orthodontics and have been awarded their CCST in orthodontics.
Requirements
BDS or equivalent GDC registerable qualifications.
MOrth RCS or equivalent GDC registerable qualifications.
Experience
General training in orthodontics to specialist level or equivalent
3 years WTE minimum in orthodontics
Ability to make appropriate decisions independently
Personal Attributes
Sufficient leadership, organisational,
communication, professional and personal skills
Good personal and interpersonal skills
Good spoken and written English. Communication skills should be highly developed.
