Urology Middle Grade Doctor.
The urology dept has been working to ensure that the clinical pathways in place facilitate prompt and appropriate treatment for patients. The Urology Service has the aim to streamline and provide a service, which delivers the Elective, Emergency and Cancer targets.
The dept is currently looking to increase the Consultant resource and has submitted a bid for a Laser to improve the treatment of patients with Urinary Calculi.
There is a fully functional Urology diagnostic unit where the department holds it one stop cancer 2 week wait clinics and has regular Flexi and Trus biopsy list under local anaesthesia.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE POST
The appointee will:
• Have a continuing responsibility for the clinical care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the Department.
• Deliver a high quality responsive Urology service to the patients who use it.
• Be responsible for providing appropriate inpatient cover to patients
• Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of a clinical department.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current Urology procedures.
The appointee will be expected to participate in:
• The development of clinical audit
• Planning and delivering the provision of the service. This will include planning how work will be organised.
• The appointment of junior medical staff and such other staff as appropriate for the department.
• The selection of equipment for the department, ensuring appropriate standards for its monitoring and maintenance.
• The training of paramedical staff, nursing staff and junior medical staff.
• Taking part in a 1 in 9 Urology full shift rota.
Medical Audit
In keeping with recent guidelines the post holder will be expected to participate in the process of medical audit, in line with our Trust Policy and Royal College guidance.
Urology audit is arranged on a monthly basis. Activity and audit data are captured by the PAS administration system and a separate urology departmental data system.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the process of Medical Audit
• MBBS or Equivalent
• Experience & Training 3 Years in approved Professional Training post
Communication skills good verbal and Written communication
Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients colleagues and staff at all levels
IT – Computer skills
Ability to motivate and develop junior staff
Good leadership Skills
