Job Summary-Electrical Engineer Job Description

This role involves working on an array of railway electrical design projects that have an impact on the daily lives of millions of people. The role will provide sound technical skills to ensure clients specifications are fully met and that project requirements are delivered in accordance with budget and programme. The role will also provide sound technical skills to ensure project requirements and client`s specifications are fully met, whilst giving advice/guidance to staff within the discipline.

Main responsibilities-Electrical Engineer Job Description

Deliver work to programme, budget and specification, reviewing project performance as required

Monitor progress of design tasks against their respective programme and cost estimate. Highlight adverse circumstances which threaten project delivery

Ensure design resources are utilised to maximum effect.

Request design resource so as to meet project delivery requirements

Supervise and co-ordinate the work of others, acting as a checker

Develop, coach and motivate team members

Provide junior engineers with guidance to meet technical and project requirements

  Provide conceptual, outline and detailed design for complex electrical engineering solutions

  Liaise with clients to ensure requirements are understood and effectively communicated to the team

  Use clear communication lines within the electrical design team

  Lead project team members in collating technical information from on-site surveys, inspections and other sources

  Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports, specifications and other written documents for complex engineering solutions

  To undertake any other reasonable task as requested

  Participate in risk assessments and hazard identification as part of the design process

  Ensure compliance with H&S, Environmental and other appropriate regulations

  Keep up to date with best practice.

  Suggest methods and practices to meet technical and project requirements

  Provide input into project quality plan and implement quality practice in all projects

  Report variances from the Quality plan and make suggestions for correction actions

  Assist Business Development Team with input on specialist technical matters for bids

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Electrical Engineer Job Description

ncorporated Engineer or equivalent experience

Degree/HNC/HNC qualified

Experience of low voltage railway engineering design, including lighting, points heating and signalling power schemes

Previous experience of HV projects desirable.

Familiarity with 16th / 17th Editions BS7671

Use of Calculation Software

Proven ability to write accurate, clear, high quality reports in English

Membership of a relevant professional organisation

Wide knowledge of UK rail industry practice and railway standards

Experience in the coordination of design production by junior designers

Computer literate with MS Word and other MS Office modules.

Ideally competent in the production of drawings using CAD software

Be willing to undertake site surveys and site supervision duties when required, working unsocial hours if required
Driving licence desirable
