The post will consist of 8 clinical sessions; general outpatients clinics, operating sessions and eye casualty sessions. There are two non-clinical sessions , one teaching session and one administration session).
The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in developing ophthalmic services, training and research.
The Department recognises that strong candidates may wish to develop competencies with the ultimate aim of achieving CESR. Educational and training support is part of this post and in the long term the timetable may be adjusted to support a strong candidate if appropriate.
Main Duties
4.1 The post holder will be responsible to the Lead Consultant in Ophthalmology.
4.2 The post holder will be involved with phacoemulsification, Argon and Yag laser treatments, minor operative procedures and refraction.
4.3 The Specialty Doctor will be involved with the examination and treatment of new patients in the Ophthalmology Department, and will also assist in the review clinic.
4.5 The Specialty Doctor will be responsible for the recording of full notes.
4.6 The Specialty Doctor will be encouraged to play an active part in the audit of the department, and will act in accordance with the policies of the department.
4.7 The Specialty Doctor will participate in on call [up to 1:5 inclusive]. The work pattern will also involve working until 7.00pm on Monday to Thursday and between 9.00am and 12.00pm on Saturday and Sunday 1 weekend in 5.
4.8 The post holder will be subject to the terms and conditions of service of the Specialty Doctor.
4.9 The Specialty Doctor would be expected to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues and in exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Extra duties will be remunerated appropriately.

• Minimum of seven years Ophthalmology experience
• FRCS/ FRCOphth qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential
• Full UK driving license and access to a car
• Prepared to travel to different clinic locations
• Ability to maintain and monitor high standards of care
• Must be comfortable using a computer, and inputting own data
