Main responsibilities-Graphic Designer Job Description

To work closely within the Organisation Communications Team in developing creative responses to briefs provided by in-house clients, also with freedom to interact independently with staff throughout the Organisation, including Directors and senior managers on creative briefs.
Analyse the requirements of the brief and by a process of professional judgement and taking into account the overall communications aims and requirements, provide solutions to meet client needs.
Responsibility for development of creative options to support high quality communications, working creatively within Corporate and ORGANISATION guidelines

To develop and implement Organisation policy and procedures relating to Graphic Design Service
Create professional creative designs based on briefs from Communications Team/ client to necessary pre-press/ web standard and to agreed deadlines.
Develop multimedia solutions to requirements in conjunction with the Communications Team including web and CD/DVD delivery of static, interactive and animated material keeping abreast of future innovative delivery options

Define print specifications, obtain a range of quotes from printers with appropriate skills and production values to meet client requirements and obtain best value for the TrustOrganisation.

To be responsible for agreeing expenditure up to £5k
Maintain accurate work records in database for auditing/accounting.
Maintain archive of work to enable retrieval at future date and portfolio of print samples for department presentations and client information.
Range of concurrent design projects are planned, prioritised and scheduled according to TrustOrganisation priorities and personal work load in order to meet defined deadlines; in the main without reference to line management.
Produce work timetables for regular publications to achieve deadlines.
Promote good design principles and accessibility in print and digital production.

Ensure that materials are ORGANISATION compliant and culturally sensitive; ensure use of appropriate imagery, compliance with legislation and use of alternative formats and languages.
As part of the Communications Team, advise staff on graphic design, ORGANISATION and Organisation identity guidelines and print buying within guidelines and contracts; advise on, and persuade compliance with, legislation pertaining to accessibility, copyright law and consent for use of persons in photography.

Keep design skills updated; update software skills and awareness through self study.
Advise on the procurement of appropriate computer hardware and software to fulfil the role. Be responsible for safe use and maintenance of the same.
Ensure with Associate Director of Communications that expenditure is monitored and does not exceed budget. Contribute to the delivery of savings objectives
To train other staff and market the new Organisation service to other staff within the Organisation

As required to make presentations to groups of staff from across the TrustOrganisation

Understand and promote Health and Safety for self and visitors to the office and work rooms.

Sound working knowledge through qualification, training or experiences of design, typesetting/typography/ print and web processes.
Ability to communicate complex requirements with print providers.
High level of technical expertise in design software for print and digital delivery:
InDesign or Quark Xpress
Illustrator/Freehand/CorelDraw
PhotoShop/PhotoPaint
Web design software
Dreamweaver/FrontPage
Flash/Fireworks
Multimedia Design:
  Director, Premiere, SoundForge
Experience of working in multimedia design or production, including web-related technologies; ability to analyse client requirements and offer a range of appropriate multimedia solutions.

Competent use of Microsoft Office suite of programs. Able to advise staff on page layout in Word and Publisher and use of PowerPoint. Able to extract information from Access, PowerPoint, Word, Excel (charts and graphs), Publisher and PowerPoint.
Specialist knowledge of peripheral hardware such as scanners, printers and digital cameras; awareness of issues of connectivity and configuration in order to advise IT staff.
Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot specialist software.
Self motivated and able to work unsupervised, to manage and prioritise own workload, delivering regular tasks and prioritising urgent requests as received.
Able to take responsibility and project manage from client brief to delivery of finished product.
