The post holder is accountable to the Head of High Risk for the effective provision and delivery of safety and security advice for hostile environments, high risk events and high risk activities to management and staff including freelancers across the spectrum of company activities. The post holder is expected to use knowledge and experience to suggest ways of meeting production requirements whilst ensuring that safety and security standards are not compromised. Advice and support must be practical and sensible at all times.
• Provide timely advice to managers and staff regarding their systems of work, objectives and plans for the management of security and safety risk.
• Provide specialist support to in the UK and when required abroad from original conception, through production to post transmission including consequence management.
Intelligence and Information
• Develop effective working relationships and contacts with colleagues, peers and external professionals. This includes Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), International Organisations (IOs), other broadcasters and security staff operating in hostile environments.
• Liaise with national and international Government, military and intelligence agencies to gain pertinent information.
• Contribute to monthly review of Hostile Environment categories. Support/Manage Risk website, contributing to Hostile Environment Country pages and specific safety and security issues.
• Undertake, as directed, detailed studies into specific safety and security threats. Make recommendations for suitable hazard mitigation and control strategies.

• Manage appropriate logistics and administrative functions as directed by Head high Risk
Deployments
• Support deployed teams in hostile environments and on challenging deployments. Deploy to support content production as required by Head of High Risk.
• Provide specialist advice to investigative programmes, including the application of surveillance techniques and undercover methods including for source and investigation protection.
• Advise on up-to-date equipment available and its correct use. Ensure that appropriate specialist equipment has been identified and issued and that appropriate training has been carried out.
• Contribute to the procurement of new personal protective equipment and specialist safety and security equipment. This includes monitoring new equipment on the market, meeting providers and ensuring equipment purchased is up to the specifications required.
Visits
• Conduct protective security inspections and assessments for staff and property overseas including hostile environments to mitigate a range of threats.
Liaison Internal and External
• Work closely with departments to promote effective security practices at all levels, often acting as impartial facilitator between departments to ensure all stakeholders are represented and satisfied.
• Liaise with company insurance, legal, procurement and HR departments as required.
• Represent thecompany at external conferences, events and represent/publicise High Risk Team at internal events or internal communications
• Manage relationships with security/intelligence companies and assess for compliance with company values. Ensure relationships with such organisations are non-compromising to company brand. These relationships frequently involve tendering, negotiating preferential rates and managing complicated and expensive contracts and services.
Crisis management
• Support crisis management at all levels, overseeing not only security issues but reputation management as well. This can involve taking the lead on specific issues of crisis and consequence management for an extended period.
Investigations
• As directed; lead or assist in the investigation of accidents or security related incidents in UK and abroad. This may also require close liaison with UK / International Government agencies and related authorities.
• Debrief safety advisors and staff on return from hostile environments especially if specific incidents such as fatalities, injuries or near misses have occurred.
Training
• As directed; assist in the development, delivery and subsequent monitoring of High Risk training programmes. This includes Hostile Environment and First Aid Training (HEFAT), HEFAT Refresher, overseas HEFAT training and Public Order Training.
Analyse information and intelligence to write strategic reports and briefings for senior management.
• Initiate and manage information and threat warnings to staff in UK and abroad within short timeframes.
Planning and Policy
• Contribute to formulation of security policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures and risk assessment documentation.
• Conduct contingency planning with the relevant managers and High Risk team.
Key Challenges:
• Pragmatism - Balancing safety & security policy requirements with programme and operational practicalities.
• Advising at senior level, often under time pressure.
• Providing support to several deployments simultaneously.
Skills:
• Extensive experience of working in Hostile Environments, and recent and sustained track record of providing security advice in for personnel and infrastructure in hostile environments against the spectrum of threats.
• Recent experience of Afghanistan and or Pakistan in an operational context .
• A broad understanding of international security issues and current affairs and a working knowledge of pertinent legislation.
• Proven track record of support to deployed staff in a dynamic operationally focused environment.
• A proven ability to synthesise information from multiple sources and show intellectual rigour in providing sound assessment and advice within high risk contexts.
• Capable of working to tight deadlines and able to respond to short notice assignments. Able to embrace uncertainty.
• Ability to anticipate operational safety requirements based on imperfect information and indicators.
• Able to work both independently and as a team member.
• A good working knowledge and/or experience of organising and operating in a covert role on undercover operations.
• Experience of the preparation and delivery of security & safety training that includes senior management briefings.
