Job Summary- Interface Developer Job Description 2

Working with information system suppliers and Organisation staff, the position holder will be responsible for assisting with the delivery, installation, system management, development and support of the interface and integration requirements for Organisation information systems.

This will include working with Organisation staff and system suppliers to identify the requirements, and assist in the system analysis and development of system interfaces. The post will report to the Organisation Integration Specialist and work in conjunction with them to deliver interfaces as part of a PAS replacement project.

Main responsibilities- Interface Developer Job Description 2

 Assist in the development and implementation of integration solutions, hosted within the Organisation Integration Engine, done in association with relevant system suppliers and staff

 Manage and support the interfaces developed within the Organisation Integration Engine (TIE)

 Ensuring all interfaces are protected by adopting Organisation standard processes such as Change Management and appropriate security, backup and housekeeping procedures; with supporting documentation

 Provide first and second line technical support for TIE developed interfaces, where required escalate issues to system suppliers suppliers

 Provide interfacing expertise and serve as a key liaison between system suppliers and Organisation personnel; providing assistance in defining system integration requirements

 Support the interfacing requirements for National Program for IT

 Support and enhance new and existing interfaces written in current and future standards including HL7, XML, fixed and variable length formats and ODBC.

 Work with Organisation staff and suppliers to ensure suitable interface testing environments exist for key messaging systems.

 Assist in the preparation and execution of system user acceptance testing (UAT) plans – in relation to interfacing / integration system testing

 Ensure any developments are fully tested to a standard where data integrity is maintained and in accordance with security and confidentiality standards

 Participate in data quality initiatives to improve the data on information systems used within the organisation

 Work with other Organisation teams in the development and maintenance of existing Information system interfaces.

Communications and Relationships

 The post holder will be part of a team who are the main point of contact for interfacing and integration issues
 Produce the required documentation to support the development and implementation of interfaces - and make sure it is kept up to date
 To be able to target the required communication to the relevant parties – users, suppliers, and staff – using the appropriate level of technical language

 Ability to convey system interface faults to system suppliers in an appropriate way to ensure corrective action can be taken

 Ensure communications are sent out to the appropriate staff groups detailing any interruption to services due to planned interface maintenance

 Provide advice to staff on interface development and deployment – in relation to current architecture, messaging capabilities and constraints

 Provide progress updates on development work, issues and faults to the relevant staff involved in system deployment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Interface Developer Job Description 2

Knowledge

 To have a specialist knowledge and experience of different programming technologies.

 Possess a general understanding of different messaging formats used in interfacing (HL7).

 To have general knowledge of object-oriented database design and programming technologies

 To have knowledge of HTML and XML web information and data structures, including demonstrable experience of developing new systems using scripting languages (e.g. VB Script)

 To have some knowledge of National Program for IT and the impact on Organisation information systems

Skills

 Possess analytical skills to review complex information flowing through interfaces including data transformations and data mappings

 Provide expertise to the implementation and ongoing support of interfaces and integration solutions

 Utilise experience and formal training of interfacing /integration solutions to the benefit of delivering of interfacing requirements

 The ability to communicate and share knowledge with others within the team

 To provide clear and concise documentation to support the technical integration/interfacing messaging infrastructure

 To be an effective communicator – using different mechanisms of communication to different people on complex interfacing topics

 Post holder will need to be self-motivated – working with limited supervision
