Job Description Plastic Surgeon
Job Summary-Job Description Plastic Surgeon
The department of plastic surgery is involved in the management of skin and soft tissue tumours that need removal and secondly, provides a reconstructive service for not only the aforementioned group, but also for patients undergoing surgery for other reasons in the field of breast surgery, colorectal surgery, gynaecology and urological surgery.
The team provides care for patients with melanoma, sarcomas and facial tumours, as well as providing a service for patients with skin cancers.
There are an increasing number of microsurgical reconstructions being performed and the successful candidate would be expected to be a competent microsurgeon.
There is a monthly plastic surgery clinical meeting, a regular audit programme and an active teaching and education programme.
The appointee will have a lead role in the development of the skin service and the microsurgical service. They will be involved in the skin DOG and the network csg and will be plastics lead on both the local and specialist skin mdts.
There is the opportunity to develop a specialist interest within the expanding plastics department with a further appointment planned within the next 3 years.
The successful candidate expected to have a key role in the development of the skin and sarcoma service and will be expected to be involved in all areas of oncology providing cover where necessary.
There will be an emergency on call commitment for Plastic Surgery

This post is designed primarily to support specialised plastic surgery oncology and reconstruction.
Main responsibilities-Job Description Plastic Surgeon
TEACHING AND MEDICAL EDUCATION
It is expected that the appointee will take equal responsibility for the educational supervision of BST`s and encourage trainees to be involved in postgraduate activities.
The Sarcoma/Melanoma DOG co-ordinates annual updates for clinicians throughout the region.
MANAGEMENT AND AUDIT

It is expected that the appointee will be committed to clinical audit and clinical governance.

Qualifications Job Description Plastic Surgeon
Essential
FRCS (plast) or equivalent
Fully registered medical practitioner
Certificate of completion of sub-specialty training in Plastic Surgery, or evidence of completion within 6 months of the date of the Appointments Advisory Committee
Research / Publications-Desirable
Completed Postgraduate thesis
Training-Desirable
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Plastic Surgery
Microsurgical training-Desirable
Microsurgical fellowship
Experience-Job Specific-Essential

Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on problems, both emergency and elective, within Plastic Surgery
Ability to take on full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Expertise in surgery for skin/sarcoma cancer and other forms of oncological surgery. To include complex reconstructions. Experience in microsurgery.

Perineal reconstruction. Sentinel node biopsy.
