To assist in the provision and maintenance of a high quality, hygienic and customer responsive service by providing general linen service duties for the Linen Department which will include:
Receipt of daily bulk delivery of clean linen.
Checking and monitoring of quality finish.
The implementation of a department linen top up service.
The transportation of linen throughout the site.
To supplement any other service required as needed within the Hotel Services Department.
To operate a mini laundry providing an efficient service to the site.
To maintain a catalogue of lost property on a 3 month rolling basis.
To be helpful, courteous and kind to colleagues, staff, and visitors alike.

To contribute to the provision of a quality Linen Service

1. To maintain a professional and hygienic appearance.
2. It is the responsibility of the postholder to contribute positively to the attainment of quality targets set within the Department.
3. To ensure that linen top-up level guidelines are followed at all times.
4. To deal with customers is a professional and caring manner at all times.

To ensure that there is a continuous linen service to all departments ensuring that, where possible, all requirements are met.

1. To maintain a safe and secure working environment with regard to health and safety.
2. To ensure all linen is receipted correctly and appropriate action taken should there be shortfall.
3. To sort and re-distribute clean linen to all wards and departments using a top-up system, ensuring there is appropriate linen available.
4. To ensure appropriate records are kept concerning the distribution and usage of linen.
5. To receipt and co-ordinate all sewing, dry-cleaning or linen service related issues.
6. To run an efficient mini laundry when required and ensure all procedures are followed to maintain infection control standards.
7. To maintain a 3 month rolling catalogue of lost property.

1. To provide and maintain a professional, efficient and effective service to patients and all other service users, that will contribute to achieving high quality patient care.
2. To carry out other duties, i.e. maintaining patients’ dignity when taking down curtains and hanging curtains, and following the procedures.
3. To maintain a tidy/hygienic environment to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
4. To ensure the upkeep of the Trust confidentiality policy and matters relating to patient privacy and dignity.
5. Comply with policies to ensure the service supports the clinical needs of the patients.
6. Remain polite, pleasant and courteous to staff, patients and visitors within the clinical environment.
7. To contribute to the development of best practice within the department.

To ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations

1. Contribute to the Health and Safety of the care environment.
2. Comply with RCHT policies to ensure the service supports the clinical needs of the patients.
3. To contribute to the development of best practice within the department.
4. Attend departmental mandatory training, i.e. Manual Handling. COSHH, Customer Care and other related courses
5. Ensure that all equipment used is in good working order and that all faults are notified to the relevant supervisor immediately.
6. To maintain a tidy and hygienic environment to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
Key Result Area: Value For Money
To ensure that the Linen Service provides a Value for Money service.
1. Ensure that all equipment is looked after correctly and that any faults are reported immediately.
2. Check all returned uniforms and store for re-issue.
3. Check all curtains and store for re-use.
4. Take out zips and buttons from unusable uniforms for re-use.
5. Making curtains for all departments
6. To sort and document Lost Property and ensure that the lost property is kept secured.
Need to be prepared to work in patient areas and departments ie laboratories.
PRACTICAL AND INTELLECTUAL SKILLS (INCLUDING ANY SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE)
Able to carry out instructions. Good communication. Able to think for yourself. Flexible.
DISPOSITION/ ADJUSTMENT/ ATTITUDE
Cheerful, adaptable, pleasant and outward going. Positive attitude. Ability to stay calm. Able to work with sick people in a clinical environment observing impeccable standards of Infection Control
TRAINING
Willingness to be trained. To attend Trust Courses, mandatory to staff.
ADDITIONAL
CIRCUMSTANCES
Need for lift, push and pull. Must tolerate standing for approx 95%of shift, walking for approx 50% and bending for approx 25%. ie filling linen cupboards.
Must be adaptable to work where needed on hospital site. Must be over 18 years of age. Enhanced Criminal records check satisfactory.
