To work as part of the team, within the Estates Department. To support the provision of a reliable, high quality, flexible, proactive customer orientated service to allow the hospital to carry out its core business. Communications and Relationship Skills
1. To form effective working relationships with colleagues throughout the Estates Department.
2. Liase with staff as required always promoting a positive customer orientated department.
3. Occasionally required to meet with contractors, following a request from Estates Management Team, at various locations in order to disseminate site-specific knowledge to enable works to be carried out.
4. Occasionally monitor contractors working in the vicinity.
5. To always carry and respond to communication devices (mobile phone/Hand held device).
6. To comply with Health and Safety regulations and safe systems of work, reporting of any defects immediately to the Estates Team.
7. Take part in regular performance appraisals.
Knowledge Training and Experience

8. Have an understanding of Electrical/Mechanical engineering and basic building principles in order to carry out a range of basic maintenance tasks.
9. An ability to carry out electrical portable appliance testing or willingness to undertake training and achieve certification upon commencement
10. Commitment to Customer Care.
11. Accept and utilise training and development offered in order to carry out duties and responsibilities in order to achieve a high quality service.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
12. Ability to assess and diagnose faults on complex building services plant and equipment
Planning and Organisational Skills
13. Organise daily work patterns around identified demands and priorities.
Physical Skills
14. Use of all relevant and appropriate tools and equipment including those specialised to specific duties or trades.
15. Undertake meter readings, monitoring deliveries of oil and other consumable commodities in accordance with local procedures.
16. Drive the Estates Department vehicles on a daily basis.

19. To follow policies for own role, commenting on policies, procedures or developments which affect the Maintenance team and supporting the implementation of departmental procedures.
Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources
20. To assist in carrying out maintenance routines both general and planned on a wide range of electrical and mechanical plant
and equipment which includes:
Lights and lighting systems including cleaning and lamp replacement
Kitchen and catering equipment
Battery plant
Domestic appliances
Portable appliances including tests and basic repairs
Monitoring of gas fired boilers

Domestic hot and cold water services
Ventilation and air conditioning systems

21. To assist higher skilled grades on new work and repairs.
22. To carry out minor installation work when required.
23. To work overtime as and when requested and participate in an out of hours on-call scheme if required.
24. Maintain workshops and other engineering spaces in a clean and tidy condition.

Good standard of general education or relevant experience
Able to demonstrate good general knowledge of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and basic Building skills either by holding an appropriate NVQ 2, or have the equivalent knowledge gained though experience.
