National Transport Manager job description

Responsible for the customer transport/supplier collection processes and the strategic running of operations.

  Working closely with suppliers and the customer to improve operations and reduce cost.
  Working closely with suppliers and the customer contract managers to identify transport costs within existing budgets and identify opportunities to release potential benefits.
  Negotiating contracts to reduce costs and achieve maximum efficiency.
  Monitoring data management to keep accurate product, contract, pricing and invoicing information.
  Facilitate the creation of accurate routing plans/schedules to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.

  Accurately calculating total supply chain costs in relation to proposed new projects.
  Obtaining quotes for transportation and also making cost comparisons.
  Ensure all transport functions and processes are fully compliant with legislative and company procedures

Working closely with the operational teams and customer operations optimise material availability
Ensure any initiatives comply with all procedural and system compliance across the customer's supply chain
  Ensure safety within the supply chain and transport function is fully compliant and actively work towards enhancing the safety culture.

  A CPC (National) is essential for this position.
  Experience of a start up operation would be a distinct advantage.
  Should possess well-developed organisational skills, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering consistent quality in a time-constrained environment.
  Strong leadership and people management skills and have the ability to organise and motivate a team
  Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  Highly customer focussed with ability to immediately gain credibility within the business and customer base.
  Flexible team leader and able to drive change.
  Flexibility and a high level of self-motivation are a must in what is an extremely time critical operation.
  Possess excellent analytical skills to review, analyse and suggest improvements
  Extensive experience in the strategic planning and transportation of products
  Experience of liaising with forwarders to arrange collections
  Able to negotiating rates with local contractors
