Job Summary-Nurse anesthetist job description

The post holder is expected to work closely with all disciplines to ensure high standards of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of nursing care, for patients requiring critical care services and their families.

The post holder can be designated to take charge of a specified area of the Critical Care unit where level 2 patients are being nursed.

The post holder is required to provide technical/specialist assistance requiring a high degree of dexterity, precision, accuracy and prolonged concentration to patients and medical staff.

The post holder is required to participate in supervision, teaching and/ or mentorship to assist with the integration of staff within the department.

Main responsibilities-Nurse anesthetist job description

Communication

To liaise with other health care team members within Anaesthetic & Critical Care Directorate/ or cross directorates in accordance with patient requirements and needs, ensuring confidentiality of patient information.

To demonstrate an understanding of specialist communication needs (verbal and non-verbal) when providing sensitive information/distressing news to patients and family.

Inform the person in charge of any significant changes throughout the shift

Analytical and Judgmental Skills

To monitor and evaluate the outcome of care and reassess care plans in response to patients changing needs.

To contribute as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the clinical decision making process.

To have a sound evidence base to inform practice.

Monitors effectiveness of treatment, interpreting these and making appropriate modifications / recommendations for treatment.

Planning and Organisational Skills

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care within his / her sphere of responsibility, having regard for the differing needs of the patient.

To demonstrate an ability to plan and coordinate daily service provision

To supervise the delivery of care of other staff as appropriate and to be conversant of the Trust Policies and Procedures and attend training with respect to all mandatory training requirements.

Participate as a member of the critical care team in formulating programmes of and providing total patient care, adhering to prescribed care plans aligned with fundamentals of care.

Implement and monitor patient care standards in collaboration with others.

Maintain a safe environment ensuring standards of patient care are maintained.

To undergo additional training within the unit to consolidate and develop critical care skills.

Policy and Service

To be conversant with Trust procedures and attend training with respect to all mandatory training requirements.

Professionally responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures

To contribute to policy development.

Financial and Physical resources

Ensure that efficient use is made of all available resources.

Assist with the maintenance of stock controls.

Ensure Patients valuables are secure at all times.
