The post holder is expected to work closely with all disciplines to ensure high standards of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of nursing care, for patients requiring critical care services and their families.
The post holder can be designated to take charge of a specified area of the Critical Care unit where level 2 patients are being nursed.
The post holder is required to provide technical/specialist assistance requiring a high degree of dexterity, precision, accuracy and prolonged concentration to patients and medical staff.
The post holder is required to participate in supervision, teaching and/ or mentorship to assist with the integration of staff within the department.
Main responsibilities-Nurse anesthetist job description
Communication
To liaise with other health care team members within Anaesthetic & Critical Care Directorate/ or cross directorates in accordance with patient requirements and needs, ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
To demonstrate an understanding of specialist communication needs (verbal and non-verbal) when providing sensitive information/distressing news to patients and family.
Inform the person in charge of any significant changes throughout the shift
Analytical and Judgmental Skills
To monitor and evaluate the outcome of care and reassess care plans in response to patients changing needs.
To contribute as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the clinical decision making process.
To have a sound evidence base to inform practice.
Monitors effectiveness of treatment, interpreting these and making appropriate modifications / recommendations for treatment.
Planning and Organisational Skills
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care within his / her sphere of responsibility, having regard for the differing needs of the patient.
To demonstrate an ability to plan and coordinate daily service provision
To supervise the delivery of care of other staff as appropriate and to be conversant of the Trust Policies and Procedures and attend training with respect to all mandatory training requirements.

Assist with the monitoring and evaluation of work of others and assist with developing training programmes and identifying training needs of junior staff and students.
Take responsibility for maintenance and development of own continuing professional development (CPD).
Participate in the induction of new staff to the critical care environment.

Information Resources
To ensure all patient records are accurately documented and maintained.
Maintain own Registration and present proof to Assistant Head of Nursing when requested.
Ahere to the NMC guidelines for records and record keeping (2007).
Be aware of the Data Protection Act 1984 with specific reference to personal information and ensure compliance with the provision of the act.
Research and Development
Utilise a questioning approach to patient care and application of research within clinical practice.
Contribute to the implementation of NICE guidelines and National Service Frameworks where applicable and raise awareness of relevant findings in clinical practice complying with the principles of Clinical Governance.
To actively participate in the audit process.
Provide evidence-based practice to facilitate a high standard of patient care.
Attend and disseminate findings on study days / courses / conference days.
Participate in performance review.
