To participate in the provision / co-ordination of individual nursing care of patients and contribute to the continuing development of nursing staff within the planned Orthopaedic Ward.
2) Main Responsibilities
a) To be an effective practitioner with the ability to develop clinical expertise in the care of patients in the acute setting using enhanced Scope of Professional Practice when appropriate.
b) To act as a resource person to others, providing information to other staff, the multi-disciplinary team, patients and relatives.
c) To provide care to patients in accordance with the philosophy of care within the unit, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.
d) Participate in the development of the ward as an effective learning environment for patients/staff/students
e) To be involved in seeking out research findings that will support and enhance clinical practice and participate in research opportunities within the unit
f) Remain up to date with changing practice / research and maximise the use of all training, Education and IT facilities.
g) To participate in quality initiatives with the aim of improving patient care.
h) To assist in the collection of data required for audit purposes as necessary.
i) To ensure that all policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by all staff, any incidents or occurrences to be reported to the Ward Manager as soon as possible.
j) To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within Planned Care and other clinical areas within the .
k) To participate in performance review and agree to objectives for continuing development of yourself and the service.
4).Patient/Client Care Responsibilities
a) To accept responsibility for the management of a group of patients, ensuring the service to patients is maintained at a high standard in accordance with and ward policies and procedures.
b) To plan, deliver, assess and evaluate individualised patient care in accordance with the model of care used.
c) Involve carer/relative during all stages of patient’s admission and discharge.
d) To promote patient participation in care, assisting others to identify and meet the learning needs of patients and their relatives whilst in hospital.
e) To assist, with supervision, in the preparation of information/educational resources for patients and relatives in hospital, aiming to encourage independence and promote health for patients.
3) Financial Responsibilities
All staff will support their managers to make efficient and effective use of resources. All staff are responsible for identifying any actual or potential deviations from budgets and work with the budget holder or manager to find effective ways of handling it.
All staff must ensure they use resources in a manner consistent with organisational objectives and policies. Ensure resources are realistic, justified and of clear benefit to the organization
4) Responsibilities for People, or Training
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the jobholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/manager from time to time.
5) Health and Safety Risk & Infection Prevention & Control
Report accidents involving staff and patients according to established procedures and in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.
To report immediately any incidents, accidents, complaints or other occurrences involving patients, visitors or staff, resolve wherever possible, complete accurate statements and report to the appropriate manager as soon as possible.
Report defects in equipment and the general fabric of the unit to the appropriate officer of the .
Take action to assess the management of risk to reduce where possible the impact on patients, visitors, staff and Property.
To consistently observe Infection Prevention & Control policies, procedures and best practice guidance in order to maintain high standards of Infection Prevention & Control.
