Clinical
The Child Health Team provides the community
child health care for the Borough. In exceptional circumstances the post holder may be required to undertake work in other parts
of the Trust.
It is expected that the postholder will work in close liaison with other consultant colleagues within the department to provide
an excellent level of care to children with on going needs within the community. You will work in particular with CAHMS and
school nursing with the paediatric therapists in planning individual care needs and in the development of the service.
CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRICS WITH A SPECIAL INTEREST IN
BEHAVIOURAL PAEDIATRICS
Work
will also be in close collaboration with local social and education services along with the PCT to move towards the implementation
of the NSF for Children.
You will act as Immunisation Advisor and act according to national guidelines for such a post. This postholder will be required to
provide advice to the PCT, school nurses and other health care professionals and may also be required to administer vaccinations in specialist cases.
The post will have a strategic role in developing the service for Looked After Children with the Local Authority, with suitable
nursing and administrative support.
You will be expected to contribute to the child protection rota working in close liaison with the named doctor for child protection. This will involve paediatric assessments, as well as providing advice and support to the acute attending physicians and junior staff in cases of a child protection nature in accordance with the local guidelines for Child Protection. Research / Teaching
Pediatricians job description
The Trust provides a large amount of teaching to the undergraduates at The Imperial School of medicine. The post holder will be required to participate in programmes to teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and nurses as well as helping with the Undergraduate clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of most clinical activities.
Post holders who undertake a significant role in the teaching of the clinical students will be eligible for an honorary Clinical Lectureship and have time allotted in their job plan
Time for research will be available subject to the experience of the post holder and the requirements of the clinical work.
The post holder`s contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in their annual appraisal and job plan review.
Clinical Governance
The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness,
risk management and such quality improvement activities deemed necessary by either the Trust or external accrediting bodies.

The post holder will be required to keep him / herself fully up to date with their relevant area of practice and be able to demonstrate this satisfactorily to the Trust.
Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs as
identified within appraisals. The Trust currently makes a financial contribution in support of these activities up to an agreed limit-at present 500 pounds per annum although a 3 year allocation can be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Management
The post holder will be required to work within the Trust`s management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments
requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. The post holder will be expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and to contribute to the running of the Department under the guidance of the Clinical
Director
General
The post holder will assume a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his / her care and in maintaining the smooth running of the Department. Office accommodation and secretarial support will be available for this post.
It is expected that the appointee would live within a reasonable distance from the Hospital.

Qualifications and Training
MRCPCH or equivalent
PALS/APLS qualification
CCST in paediatrics or registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics OR within 6 months of achieving CCST at time of interview
Skills and Knowledge
Sufficient leadership, organizational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in a large district general hospital.
Good personal and interpersonal skills.
Good spoken and written English.
Highly developed communication skills.
Experience of teaching Undergraduates and Trainees.
Experience of routine clinical audit
Experience and Training
General training in Community Paediatrics to specialist level or equivalent, with general paediatrics training at SpR level.
Training and Skills in neurodevelopmental paediatric problems (eg Autism/ ADHD / CP)
Ability to make decisions at consultant level in both community paediatrics and general paediatrics.
Training in Child protection.
