To undertake focused visible uniform patrols, as tasked, throughout the area in order to support police officers in minimising incidents of anti-social behaviour and reducing the fear of crime.

 PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF ROLE

a) Conduct high visibility community-based uniformed foot patrol responding promptly to calls and requests for assistance ensuring that all problems are reported promptly to the relevant police team.

b) Respond promptly to assist police officers to take control of incidents and undertake enquiries in relation to specified incidents as required to assist in the detection and prevention of crime.

c) Participate in any police initiative established in the area to tackle antisocial behaviour whilst acting in accordance with the relevant legislation, policy, protocols and code of practice to maintain high levels of community safety and confidence.

d) Assist in generating and gathering relevant information to support any enforcement action required.

e) To prepare daily incident reports to assist policing activities

f) Provide support and assistance at public events to ensure crowd control and public safety.

g) Ensure that the necessary care for victims and witnesses is provided in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures.

h) Support police officers in building and maintaining community relations by providing appropriate support.

i) Attend court when required to give evidence in accordance with legislation to aid prosecution and conviction of offenders.

The postholder will have regular contact with police officers and police staff at all levels, various communities/partnerships, members of the public, Criminal Justice System.  The postholder will be supervised by a police sergeant.

COMPETENCIES

  * 1 Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  * 2 Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of computer systems.
  * 3 Must be able to compile short reports/briefings, which are timely and accurate and demonstrate the ability to complete basic administrative procedures.
  * 4 Demonstrates a basic understanding of Policing issues.
  * 5 Required to make decisions using own initiative.
  * 6 Must be able to work as part of a team.
  * 7 Must be able to adopt a problem solving approach to issues.
  * 8 The ability to develop strong working relationships both inside the organisation and within the community.
  * 9 The ability to focus on the needs of the community and diverse public.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  * a) The post is covered by a local agreement that sets out organisational arrangements, working patterns, pay levels, mobility and performance measures.
  * b) You will be required to work during weekends and may work within a shift pattern for which you will be paid at the appropriate level.
