Job Summary-Telephony technician job description

Successfully install, support, and maintain telephony and IP network equipment, while providing optimal customer service.

Serve as company professional representative when interacting with internal and external customers.

- Successfully install, maintain, and troubleshoot telephony and IP network equipment.

- Actively maintain the voice messaging systems.

- Work productively with group members to complete customer work orders efficiently, accurately, and on time.

- Accurately produce and deliver customer billing forms.

- Proactively maintain facilities based telephone services.

- Cultivate productive relationships with Customer Service, Field OPS, etc in an effort to provide optimal customer service.

- Clearly communicate any system issues, outages, or abnormalities to Management and other group members.

- Proactively stay abreast of new information and technologies and attend related training courses as needed.

- Report significant activity to the NOC and keep detailed statistics regarding these activities.

- Provide effective “on call” support and be prepared to work other than regular business hours as necessary.

- Communicate and maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation as directed.

- Develop a comprehensive understanding of corporate in-house equipment and wiring.

- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and offer viable recommendations.

- Effectively communicate with Management and other departments to handle any escalating issues in a timely manner.

- Mentor and train new hires and existing staff as required.

- Be willing to work on special projects as assigned.

- Actively participate in group efforts to support customer satisfaction.

- Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate reports as requested.

- Adhere to company privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s and employee’s privacy is protected.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Provide effective installation, maintenance, and support for telephony and IP network equipment.

- Function as an effective group member; support the efforts and concepts of other departments including, but not limited to: Sales, Engineering, Construction, Marketing, Customer Service, Field Operations, Technology and the corporate office.

- Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.

- Maintain a clean driving record.

- Apply a positive customer service attitude in interactions with all internal customers; Maintain regular attendance to meet customer demand and support optimal customer satisfaction

- Be able to meet the physical demands of the job within the prescribed work environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Telephony technician job description

- Maintain current, valid driver’s license and good to excellent driving record (DUI within the last 5 years disqualifies you for employment in this position).
- Work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Be ready, willing, and able to travel by air or by ground as necessary.
- Prioritize effectively, manage time well, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation; Multi-task and be versatile.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of telephony equipment, systems, and components.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in several areas of the field.
- Maintain professional demeanor.
- Apply common sense understanding in carrying out detailed written or oral instructions. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Demonstrate exceptional group development skills, a broad range of departmental experience, and a positive, proactive attitude to excel in this position.

Telephony technician job description

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Telephony technician job description
- Associates Degree, Vocational certification in electronics, or equivalent required.
- Two years previous experience with Nortel DMS 100, 250 required, and some experience with MG15K, PPV8600 preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, federal, state and local regulations, general safety standards, and the entire telecommunications system configuration required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or computer controls, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 70 lbs.

- May be required to climb poles (with proper equipment), ladders, and other structures as necessary.
- May be required to work within limited confines, such as crawl spaces as needed.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
