Assist vets with clinical cases and surgery as per qualified vet nurse; including general anaesthesia maintenance and Schedule 3 procedures (minor surgery).
Clean hospital area and equipment and clothing.
Perform post mortem examinations, organise and send samples to Museums, organise in house sample archive.
Process samples and perform in house testing;
Package and prepare samples under legal requirements for posting to outside laboratories.
Administration duties including entering data into medical computer records and paperwork filing.
Stocktaking and ordering of veterinary drugs and supplies; organise invoices.
Organise the externship (seeing practice) service and supervise those on site on a day to day basis.
Co-ordinate vet duty rotas with on call of site vet service.
Ensure maintenance and obtain quotes for replacement of equipment as required.

Assist the Head of Veterinary Services in the running of the department. Perform vet nursing role and that of Head Vet Nurse (as per BVNA vet nurse profiles).
Head Nurse will organise veterinary nursing team (vet students, volunteers, vets seeing practice) to ensure the efficient running of the department
Health & Safety
Ensure that the management of Health and Safety is carried out as required by BCWEZS Health and Safety management system, by ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.

Internal
Ensure line manager is consulted and updated on a daily basis.
Liaise with staff from other department of BZG.
Liaise with trainees/volunteers within the department.
External
Liaise with outside vets.
Liaise with suppliers.
Liaise with outside bodies as requested.
