The Database Administrator is responsible for overseeing every aspect of the SQL Server environment including to assist with supporting, monitoring, developing and improving the existing Microsoft SQL Server estate, jobs and processes.

Building, managing, upgrading and monitoring the SQL Infrastructure which includes windows clusters, all SQL versions from 2008 onwards and high availability groups across multiple sites.



Ensuring server / database availability and performance. It is extremely important to the company that database systems offer the highest availability, reliability, and performance possible.


Proactively look for potential issues and resolve them before they become a problem.


Responding to alerts and service desk tickets, fixing any database issues that arise within third-party or in-house applications.


Automating processes wherever possible to save time and reduce the risk of errors.


Providing technical guidance on standards, performance and best practice to other teams, to help them design the best possible solution.


Ensuring the security of all databases using appropriate permissions and encryption.


Performing backups, restores, data refreshes or data/schema compares as required to support application development phases and releases.


Completing change management forms and complying with the company change management processes.


Assisting with the assessment and implementation of new technologies. Documenting the SQL environment, processes and support procedures.




Knowledge Skills and Experience


Qualifications


Educated to degree level or equivalent.


Experience


2+ years DBA experience with strong understanding of database support, structures, theories, principles, and practices.


Understanding of the following, ideally with industry experience: -

Essential

  • Backups & Restores.

  • SQL Server Updates.

  • SQL Server Installation.

  • SQL Server Security.

  • SQL Server Agent Job Management.

  • Managing High Availability Groups.

  • Database Migrations.

  • Understanding of the following, ideally with industry experience: -

  • Coding SQL Server Queries (T-SQL).

  • Designing SSIS Packages.

  • Database design standards.

  • Redgate Data / Schema Compare Tools.

  • SQL Best Practices.



Desirable


  • Understanding of the following, ideally with industry experience: -

  • Disaster recovery options.

  • Service Broker.

  • Running Powershell Scripts.

  • Redgate SQL Monitoring Tool.

  • Understanding of the following, ideally with industry experience: -

  • Designing Powershell Scripts.

  • Designing Batch files.

  • Developing C# code.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
