Key Responsibilities-Head of Technology and Operations Job Description


• Define, communicate and deliver the strategy for the department which supports

integrated business alignment and delivery of company objectives.


• Lead the strategy for the division


• Deliver the function’s strategy efficiently, driving maximum value through reducing

costs, increasing income, ensuring appropriate investment to maximise return to the

customer including seeking opportunities to maximise utilisation by supplying

spare capacity to third-party organisations


• Accountable for major capital project delivery across the function.


• Strategically keep abreast of industry trends, competitor activity and performance, and best practice, incorporating new ideas, driving innovation and establishing a high

performance culture.


• Accountable for leading, delivering and maintaining the divisional/sub-divisional major incident, emergency and event planning change, risk, issue and dependency plans, contributing to business continuity and disaster recovery planning for all platforms across the function; ensuring that strategic and tactical plans are in place



• Engages across the company to represent the function in industry, academic and public forums as required, providing a Technology & Operations figurehead in the

establishment of partnerships.


• Responsible for the construction and effective management of the business plan and budget and for ensuring financial targets and business objectives are met.


• Ensuring teams adhere to the implementation of information security policies and

procedures.


• Take a lead role in encouraging and promoting collaboration across teams and the

sharing of ideas and best practice.


• Line manage a team of managers and have overall responsibility for their training,

development and performance, identifying and growing senior individuals to achieve

their potential by providing inspirational leadership and supporting career development and talent retention.


• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and policiy, actively take the

lead in promoting best practice in managing health and safety across the department.


• Responsible for the development and implementation of ideas and opportunities which drive a multi-skilled/multi-platform working environment, including designing training schemes/initiatives which maximise new technology and kit, as well as new ways of working and new workflows.


• Along with members of the management team, design and develop changes to working practices which help facilitate staff movement and career mobility with clear career paths.



• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with relevant senior internal

stakeholders including other functions of the company.


• Work with internal/ external stakeholders and strategic partners to align them around

the company strategy.


• Contribute to the wider development and leadership of the function and the service management functions, promoting and championing collaboration, creativity and diversity.


• Work as part of a project team, providing input into shaping and delivering transformational change within the business.


Operations Specific

• Maintain the strategic alignment of the division/sub-division’s Operations portfolio with the overall Operational strategy and relevant systems and products.


• Owning, creating and maintaining innovative digital transformation plans across the

division\sub-division’s operational estate.


• Maintain the strategic alignment of the division/sub-division’s technology portfolio with the organisation’s technology strategy and relevant systems

and products.



• Owning, creating and maintaining innovative digital transformation plans across the

technology estate.


• Providing thought leadership to the evolution of the roadmap.

Essential


• As an expert in their field, they will provide professional leadership and act as role model to their teams and colleagues.


• Adept at managing numerous, diverse senior level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous competing priorities.


• Experience of operating at a senior level in the public sector and/or dealing with

external/governmental stakeholders or equivalent in a commercial business.


• A convincing and persuasive communicator, required to modify beliefs and opinions of teams, as well as senior stakeholders, able to establish effective and collaborative

relations across departments, and external agencies/stakeholders where required.


• Act as the conduit to effective communication and influence across the management

team.


• Possesses a strong understanding of the sector and competitors, and the

relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends and issues relating to their

functional area.



• A deep functional/technical expert with broad and comprehensive understanding of

theories, systems and practices relevant to their functional area.


• Broad and comprehensive understanding of all regulatory and contractual

obligations as they pertain to their functional area.


• Extensive experience in managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers

• Develop, adapt and execute departmental plans in line with strategic plans and direction from Senior Leaders.

requiring complex analytics and decision making, interpretative thinking and a solutionsfocused approach.


Scope

• Typically leading a sub-function/top line department or specialism within a top line

support function.


• Ability to apply external sector knowledge, contextualising challenges and changes in

the sector, to understand the relative positioning and strength of services/practices.


• In-depth knowledge of how own sub-function/sub-divisional area integrates within the function/division, including how processes and resources interact to help achieve

functional/divisional targets and objectives.
